UNESCO Route
Since 2004, Monte Verde has been part of UNESCO’s Tentative List for World Heritage, marking the beginning of the process that is now moving forward toward its nomination as a site of Outstanding Universal Value.
Since 2004, it has been part of Chile’s Tentative List of cultural properties submitted to UNESCO, a recognition that identifies places with Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) that may be nominated as World Heritage Sites.
Currently, Chile has seven cultural properties inscribed on UNESCO’s World Heritage List: Rapa Nui National Park, the Churches of Chiloé, the Historic Quarter of the Port City of Valparaíso, the Humberstone and Santa Laura Saltpeter Works, the Qhapaq Ñan (Andean Road System), the Sewell Mining Town, and the Settlements and Artificial Mummification of the Chinchorro Culture in the Arica and Parinacota Region.

Strategic Nomination Pathway to UNESCO’s World Heritage List
Within this framework, the Monte Verde Foundation leads the strategic nomination pathway to UNESCO’s World Heritage List, a project funded by the World Heritage Sites Social Program of the National Cultural Heritage Service. This process seeks to update and strengthen the site’s nomination dossier, engage the scientific, local, and regional communities, and consolidate Monte Verde’s projection as heritage of all humanity.
